The legendary Pokemon of generation five, and deceivingly the box art mascot of Pokemon White, Zekrom is a dual-type dragon/electric Pokemon. Not only is it a legendary Pokemon, it also had an appearance in the Pokemon Movie: White-Victini and Zekrom. As the legendary representative for Pokemon White, its counterpart is Reshiram. Typical of the mascot legendaries, both Resiram and Zekrom have extensive lore that drives the plot of the games. This guide will showcase Zekrom’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Zekrom.
About Zekrom
Zekrom was introduced in the generation five games with Pokemon Black and White. It made its first appearance in the main series of the black and white season in the first episode. A year later, it appeared in its own movie including Victini in Pokemon the Movie: White-Victini and Zekrom. As the mascot of Pokemon White, Zekrom drives the story by placing the player against trainer N, in a battle between two chosen heroes. In Pokemon White, Zekrom appears before the player before their penultimate battle against N where the player has to prove their salt as a hero by catching Zekrom. The Pokedex states that this Pokemon will help those who want to build an ideal world.

Appearance of Zekrom
As a dragon/electric type Pokemon, Zekrom is often depicted flying with blue streaks of lightning. It is very tall at 9 feet and 6 inches, or 2.9 meters. Its large, drill-shaped tail is capable of producing massive amounts of electric energy. Zekrom’s body is almost entirely black, it has electric blue irises, red sclera, and black pupils. The large tail is striped and will glow blue occasionally with electric energy. It has two fan-shaped wings and its arms resemble a similar pattern. It is capable of standing on two legs that end in three talons, and within its arms are three sharp claws. Zekrom also has a small thunderbolt-shaped crown atop its head.
Behavior of Zekrom
Zekrom is a champion of ideology and will only appear before someone with strong will and beliefs. This is in contrast to Reshiram, which champions truth. Known to be a guardian, Zekrom will protect both people and Pokemon. As is typical of most legendary Pokemon, it is involved in a great deal of history with the Unova region. Both Reshiram and Zekrom await their respective champion to do their hero’s bidding. Capable of changing the world for better or worse, Zekrom’s behavior will match its heroes and will change whether the hero’s ideals are benevolent or malevolent.
Strengths and Weaknesses
As a legendary dragon/electric type, it will only succumb to ground, ice, and dragon moves in generation five. Even playing towards its weaknesses, Zekrom will pose quite the challenge. Its statlines are typical of legendary Pokemon, meaning that they are absurdly high base stats. Zekrom is a physical attacker, but its special attack is nothing to sneeze at. With high defense stats and a good health pool, its only non-absurd statline is its speed. Using a fast special attacking ground, ice, or dragon move will be the best plan to get through Zekrom. Since its stats are so high, you will want to end the battle against Zekrom quickly, as it is not likely you will be able to outlast it.
Shiny Zekrom
Unfortunately, Zekrom was shiny-locked in Pokemon White, meaning it was impossible to get a Shiny Zekrom through regular play in this game. Shiny Zekrom was eventually available for capture in later generations, but there is not much difference at all. Shiny Zekrom is still almost entirely black, the tip of the crown on top of its head is electric green, and the pulsing blue energy in its tail is also swapped out for this electric green. In addition to the minimal color swaps, its sclera changes from red to blue. As with all shinies, a Shiny Zekrom will enter battle with a starry effect.
Gold Zekrom
Gold Zekrom is a Pokemon TCG card that was available as part of the Pokemon Legendary Treasures set, released in 2013, which included secret rares where the card was completely golden. As an incredibly rare card, it has high value to collectors. A perfectly graded Gold Zekrom retails for over 8,000 USD. Gold Zekrom is an impressive-looking card and its minimal print line along with its incredible rarity attribute to its high cost. For a card that was released relatively recently, it has astounding value to any collector who managed to obtain it.
Best Moveset
Since Zekrom is a legendary Pokemon, it will only see play in the Uber competitive bracket. Nevertheless, it is still a force to be reckoned with, and one can see success with the right moves. To have the best odds, consider moves like Bolt Strike, Dragon Dance, Dragon Claw, and Substitute/Roost. Zekrom is a physical attacker, so you will only want moves that benefit from its high attack stat. Bolt Strike is a powerful electric type move that will benefit from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Dragon Dance is a powerful setup tool, Dragon Claw also benefits from STAB and covers a lot of the other dragon types found in Uber, and Substitute/Roost will help Zekrom’s survivability. For a held item, you have a variety of choices between leftovers, life orb, and the humble lum berry.

How to Catch Zekrom in Pokemon Go
As Zekrom is a legendary Pokemon, it is not available for capture in the wild. You will have to find a Zekrom raid in a Pokemon Gym nearby. It is a five-star raid, so you will need a good group of trainers to take Zekrom down. Since Zekrom is classified as legendary, this is the only method that you can obtain a Zekrom. You cannot hatch a Zekrom, incense a Zekrom, or find it in the wild. Double-check the rotation of raid battles in the gyms near you to ensure that you can have a chance to catch this legendary dragon/electric Pokemon.
Trivia
- Both Reshiram and Zekrom are the first two Pokemon to be revealed simultaneously worldwide.
- As Zekrom is the counterpart to Reshiram, their attack, defense, special attack, and special defense stats are directly inverted from each other.
- Of all the electric type Pokemon in the games, Zekrom has the highest base attack stat.
FAQs
Q. Who is Stronger Reshiram or Zekrom?
As they are both counterparts to each other, and their stats are directly inverted from each other, it depends entirely on what you need on your team and what your opponents are likely to bring. If you need a physical attacker, you should opt for Zekrom, and vice versa. Another thing to consider is Reshiram is a dragon/fire type while Zekrom is a dragon/electric type. Not that this makes one stronger than the other, but you should consider what your opponents are likely to bring to decide which one could succeed easier.
Q. What does Zekrom evolve from?
Zekrom is not known to evolve into or from any Pokemon. In the Pokemon lore, it is said that Reshiram and Zekrom were once one being that eventually split apart. Despite this, it is not as if they evolved from each other. Rather that they split apart into two separate entities. All that being said, Zekrom is a standalone Pokemon, it does not evolve from or into any Pokemon.
Q. What does Kyurem evolve into?
As the Pokemon lore states that Zekrom and Reshiram were split apart into two separate dragons, Kyurem is what was left. Kyurem does not evolve into any Pokemon and does not evolve from any Pokemon. If you consider the lore, Kyurem technically came to be due to Reshiram and Zekrom’s forms splitting. However, this does not mean Kyurem evolved from either of these dragons nor does it evolve into anything.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know about the mascot Pokemon of Pokemon White. Zekrom is, confusingly, the legendary mascot of Pokemon White. In battle, it truly seems as if it is capable of shaping the world by the way it controls the flow of battle. According to the lore, only the hero of ideals is able to control Zekrom and use its power to shape the world. The player gets to decide if they want to embody the hero of ideals or the hero of truth.
